JOB TITLE: Sexual Assault Advocate Located at Sonoma State University

HOURS: 40 hours/week Nonexempt position

SALARY/ $23 per hour. Generous sick and vacation time accrual; medical benefits will begin upon

REPORTS TO: Executive Director, Intervention Manager, Sonoma State University in Conjunction with the Sonoma State University Project Confidential Campus Advocate.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Under general direction of the Verity Executive Director working closely with the Sonoma State
Confidential Campus Advocate the Sexual Assault Advocate (SAA) will be an active member of the Coordinated Community Response Team (CCR) aka the Sexual Misconduct/Assault Response Team
(SMART).

The SAA will serve as a co-facilitator of the SSU Check-It program with OPHD. SAA and the Campus Police/Safety Officer will coordinate and provide grant specific trainings for all pertinent campus entities.

The SAA shall support the Campus Confidential Advocate in responding to reports of sexual assault/misconduct and offer crisis intervention services to survivor(s), coordinate services with agencies or individuals on behalf of the survivor.

SAA shall attempt to contact the survivor(s) within three working days after the initial contact and at the discretion of the survivor, provide support by being physically present during meetings and/or appointments related to the sexual assault, provide survivor with appropriate referrals for additional services and maintain a current written list of community resources.

Additionally, reporting to the Executive Director and the Intervention Manager, the Sexual Assault Advocate provides client-centered crisis intervention & intake assessment, ongoing advocacy, intensive ongoing case management for survivors of sexual assault who are students at Sonoma State University.

All referrals will come to SAA through the Campus Confidential Advocate, who is an employee of Sonoma State University, on behalf of SSU sexual assaults survivors, to coordinate all activities related to case management and grant objectives, including but not limited to:

in-person SART exams and/or interviews, accompaniments and advocacy with social services, court, and local law enforcement.

The SAA provides confidential services, informing survivors and their families of their legal rights and options.

The SAA will provide supportive services to all clients of SSU, including students, faculty, staff, and secondary victims of sexual violence. and supporting them in their choices as part of ongoing case management.

The SAA will be knowledgeable about the Title lX process at Sonoma State University.

Offer of position is contingent upon completion background check.

Essential Duties:

o The SAA will coordinate with agencies or individuals on behalf of the survivor.

o The SAA will provide follow-up services and will establish initial contact with the survivor within three working days after the initial contact o At the discretion of the survivor, the SAA will provide support by being physically present during meetings and/or appointments related to the sexual assault per conditions related to the COVID virus.

o The SAA will provide the survivor with appropriate referrals for additional services, including Verity’s main office and will maintain a current written list of community resources.

o The SAA will coordinate a joint response with the designated campus law enforcement officer to reports of sexual assault within the campus community, as related to students, faculty, and staff.

o The SAA and the Campus Police/Safety Officer and will coordinate and provide grant required trainings for students, campus police and/or safety personnel, campus disciplinary board members, campus advocates, and campus housing authorities.

Training will include:

Dynamics of sexual assault
Sensitivity in responding to survivors of sexual assault
Campus law enforcement protocols/procedures for response to survivors of sexual assault
Community resources
Confidentiality o The SAA will conduct in-person (when possible) and virtual presentations to classes, student organizations, staff, and faculty. The presentations will serve to introduce the SAA and will be conducted across a spectrum of campus facilities and organizations including campus housing,
Student Services programs such as Counseling and Psychological Services, Fraternity and Sorority
Life, athletic teams, and faculty departments. o Additional Duties: Perform all other additional duties as assigned if availability permits

Qualifications:

o Bilingual strongly encouraged to apply o Relevant life or work experience

o Motivated, self-starter capable of working independently o Experience working with college students

o Ability to connect and establish trust with students o Ability to be flexible with schedule

o Ability to maintain a high level of client confidentiality

o Proficiency with Google applications and Microsoft Office

o State certification as a sexual assault counselor/advocate — if not currently certified, candidate must be able to complete Verity’s Crisis Line Counselor training

o Offer of position is contingent upon completion of DOJ fingerprint check o Case management experience is strongly preferred

o Experience with databases

Due to COVID 19 we are working a hybrid version with not all staff being in the offices on the same day/times.
