Elizabeth Bishay brings to the Verity Board of Directors 40 years of professional fund-development experience and expertise, with an emphasis on grants procurement and administration and major gifts fundraising. Elizabeth’s 25-year career at University of
California, Davis included co-founding a research-training center called the Center for Transnational Health, where she served as Director of Grants from 2004-2016. After retiring from UC Davis in 2020, she contracted with San Diego State University as the
lead writer in the development and submission of successful federal research-training grant applications.
In addition to higher education, Elizabeth has a decade of leadership experience in community-based non-profits, including three years in food banking and seven years in support services for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. She served as
executive director of the Women’s Center of San Joaquin County (now PREVAIL) from 1991-94 and, upon her move to UC Davis, served on the board of directors of Yolo County Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center (now Empower Yolo) from 1995-99.
Elizabeth received her State of California certifications in sexual assault and domestic violence peer counseling from the Sacramento-based agency Women Escaping a Violent Environment (WEAVE) in 1992. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Haverford College and a Master of Journalism degree from Temple University.
