Position: Sexual Assault Advocate 

Reports to: Intervention Team Leadership 

Status:  Full time. Nonexempt 

Salary: $26 an hour (eligible for $1/hour bilingual pay differential)

Summary: Serve survivors of sexual assault and/or human trafficking as an advocate with Verity and Family Justice Center, ensuring comprehensive support for individuals in need. This includes providing accompaniment at child forensic interviews held on-site at Redwood Children’s Center. Working directly with youth identified as Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC). The team of professional advocates manage individual cases, providing survivors with advocacy, crisis intervention, accompaniment, and resources as needed to best serve their specific circumstances. 

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Crisis Intervention/Accompaniment/Advocacy Services 

  • Provide medical/legal accompaniment services to Redwood Children’s Center clients and their families to ensure interviews have Verity accompaniment services. 
  • Provide in-person, remote, and telephone crisis intervention for FJC and Verity clients. 
  • Support survivors through the investigative and criminal justice systems by providing case status information, explaining investigative and prosecution processes, and accompanying victims to law enforcement interviews, medical exams, and court. 
  • Provide follow up and on-going advocacy services. 
  • Coordinate with the Verity and FJCSC teams to ensure adequate service delivery.
  • Provides education on topics such as birth control, safe sex practices, boundaries, teen clinics, harm reduction strategies, safety planning, victim rights.
  • Provide resources to clients related to therapy, basic needs, housing, financial, legal, substance recovery, ect.  
  • Coordination and support for emergency services such as shelter, police report filing, transportation, basic needs and safety. 
  • Community Outreach and Collaboration: I engage in outreach activities within the community, collaborating with partner agencies to enhance support networks specifically presenting about Sexual Assault, CSEC and Human Trafficking.
  • Uphold legal responsibilities for mandated reporting, ensuring that any suspicions of abuse or neglect are reported to the appropriate authorities.
  • Accompany clients during Law Enforcement and Sexual Assault Response Teams (SART) forensic interviews. This involvement ensures that clients receive compassionate, informed assistance throughout these critical processes. 

 

Administrative Duties 

  • Attend twice monthly Verity staff meetings, providing input and updates regarding client needs at FJCSC, as well as staffing or other relevant updates from FJCSC to Verity staff. 
  • Attend weekly Intervention Department meetings. 
  • Attend meetings at FJCSC, as required. 
  • Complete monthly paperwork in a timely manner, most importantly data entry for grant consideration and requirements. 
  • Work as a team player, collaborating effectively with other staff members. 
  • Collect, maintain and input accurate confidential client information into Verity’s and FJCSC’s database systems. 
  • Adhere to all Verity personnel policies and protocols. 
  • Serve as Verity liaison at the Family Justice Center Sonoma County. 
  • Attend monthly CSEC committee meetings
  • Attend scheduled MDT meetings for identified CSEC youth
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as required by the Executive Director or supervisor to facilitate the overall effective operation of Verity. 

 

Education, Competencies, and Required Skills: 

  • Prior experience working or volunteering in related field is required. 
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is highly desirable. 
  • State certification as a California Rape Crisis Counselor—if chosen applicant is not currently certified, the candidate must be able to complete Verity’s Crisis Line Counselor training upon hiring. 
  • The selected candidate must complete and be able to pass an extensive background check. 
  • Must be a self-starter who can work in a team environment and handle a variety of tasks with urgent deadlines. 
  • Ability to connect and establish trust with a diverse population of clients. 
  • Ability to interpret and understand instructions, write reports and document client interactions in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Must understand cultural humility and be committed to working with a diverse client population. 
  • Ability to maintain a high level of client confidentiality. 
  • Ability to manage a high client caseload. 
  • High School diploma or GED or equivalent. 
  • Offer of position is contingent upon completion of Family Justice Center Sonoma County background check and DOJ fingerprint check.

Ability to work at a desk/computer in a shared workspace for several hours at a time; bending and/or lifting up to 20 pounds, grasping; capacity to navigate two-story building via stairs; specific vision abilities include close and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment; work environment represents those an employee encounters while working in an office workspace environment. 

 

Work Environment

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work 

This position is flexible and may work onsite or remote, depending on the incumbent’s workload and daily schedule. 

 

Travel 

Travel is primarily local during the business day; reliable transportation is required; ability to use personal vehicles for work-related errands.
