NOW HIRING: Veterans Case Coordinator

Position: Veterans Case Coordinator
Part-Time, 15 hours a week
$18.22 an hour, increasing to $18.72 after 90 day probationary period

Weekly schedule:
• Tuesdays 9am-12pm for Santa Rosa Vet Connect meetings and 1-2pm for Verity staff meetings
• The other 11 hours are flexible based on clients’ needs and outreach opportunities

Summary of Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the case coordinator position for Verity’s Forgotten Warriors Project is intended to provide case management and outreach to men and women in Sonoma County who have served, or who are currently serving in the military. Hours are flexible, however, it is required for applicants to be available Tuesdays, from 9am-12pm to attend Vet Connect meetings at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Santa Rosa as well as in Guerneville. Applicants should also be available from 9am-11am the first Thursday of every month to attend the Veterans Advisory Council on Mental Health meeting. In addition to these meetings, the case coordinator will provide outreach to other local service providers and agencies working with veterans, churches, housing facilities, and beyond, in order to connect veterans with Verity’s services.

Job Duties:
• Case Management
• Problem-solving (identifying issues that that cause stress in client’s life and collaboratively brainstorming solutions).
• Helping with general organization and scheduling of support for needs.
• Collaborating with Verity’s lead clinician and following up with clients
• Providing and explaining resources
• Assisting with application for services due veterans from the V.A. and assisting with at time writing and submitting their V.A. claims. Strong advocacy skills required
• Family Support
• Ensuring that all services are available to family members as well
• Advocacy
• Writing letters on client’s behalf to substantiate need for other services
• Making phone calls on client’s behalf to find resources or schedule appointments
• Attending an appointment or event as a person of support with the client
• Addressing in-person and over-the-phone crises and non-crisis situations
• Following up with clients
• Referrals
• Finding resources that are helpful and relevant client’s needs
• Keeping referral list relevant and updated
• Building relationships with other service providers
• Administrative Duties
• Data entry and client intake form for each client served
• Track outreach and advocacy numbers with vet connect and case management forms
• Write monthly reports for board
• Write quarterly reports for grantor
• Outreach
• Attending Vet Connect meetings every Tuesday from 9am-12pm
• Attending monthly mental health meetings, occurring on the first Thursday every month
• Outreaching to other services providers, churches, veteran’s groups, etc. with the goal of distributing information about Verity’s Forgotten Warriors Project
• Meeting routinely with personnel at the Two Rock Coast Guard facility in Petaluma
• Creating rapport with command staff at Sonoma County Correctional Facility; in person meetings with clients who are currently incarcerated and are former veterans

Qualifications Required:
• Equivalent career experience
• State certification, in past three years, as a sexual assault counselor/advocate. If not certified, candidate must be able to complete Verity’s Crisis Line Counselor training.
• Ability to maintain a high level of client confidentiality.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Must be a self-starter who can work in an independent and team environment and handle a variety of tasks with deadlines.
• Excellent written and oral communication and facilitation skills.
• Employment is contingent upon completion of background check and DOJ fingerprint check.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not mandatory

NOW HIRING: Bilingual Human Trafficking Caseworker

JOB TITLE: Bilingual Human Trafficking Caseworker

HOURS: 40 hours, Hourly, Non-Exempt

SALARY & BENEFITS: $19.00 an hour until completion of 90 day probation period, at which point pay will increase to $19.50 an hour. There is generous sick and vacation time accrual, and medical benefits will begin after the 90 day probation period.

REPORTS TO: Intervention Manager

OVERVIEW:
This position will last for two years, from April 2017 to March of 2019. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Human Trafficking (HT) Caseworker provides client-centered crisis intervention & intake assessment, ongoing advocacy, intensive ongoing case management including but not limited to direct connection to Verity & Agency Partner services to survivors of human trafficking (both labor and sexual trafficking) and their children. This position will coordinate all activities related to case management and program operations, including but not limited to, in-person CSEC/SART exams and/or interviews, accompaniment throughout all stages of the legal and/or immigration processes, accompaniment and advocacy with social services, court, and local law enforcement. The HT Caseworker provides confidential services, informing survivors and their families of their legal rights and options and supporting them in their choices as part of ongoing case management. The HT Caseworker maintains partnerships with other community agencies and providers to coordinate and advocate all service needs. The HT Caseworker also serves on committees and workgroups related to human trafficking to advocate for survivors needs.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
� Provide in-person and telephone crisis intervention & advocacy for clients affected by human trafficking and complete initial needs assessment
� Provide ongoing and intensive case management expanding on initial needs assessment that includes comprehensive follow-up contact & ongoing advocacy services via phone and in person
� Work with clients to create individualized case plans from a client-centered, empowerment model that supports survivors to reintegrate into to society
� As part of individual case plan, assist clients with access to long term housing, emergency shelter, and long term programs which include shelter for up to 24 months
� Support trafficked victims through the investigative and criminal justice systems by providing case status information, explaining investigative and prosecution processes, and accompanying victims to related appointments
� Work as a team player, collaborating effectively with other staff members and community agencies
� Collect, maintain and input confidential client information, assessments, and services provided into Verity’s database systems

MAJOR QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of relevant life and career experience
* Bilingualism in English and Spanish is required
*  Ability to work at varying hours due to need to be available for emergency “call out” for victims
*  State certification as a sexual assault counselor/advocate.
If not currently certified, candidate must be able to complete Verity’s Crisis Line Counselor training
* Ability to maintain a high level of client confidentiality
* Experience with “at-risk” or otherwise disenfranchised populations; ability to connect and establish trust.
* Case management experience is strongly preferred.
* Proficiency with Google applications and Microsoft Office
* Offer of position is contingent upon completion of Family Justice Center Sonoma County background check and DOJ fingerprint check

Verity, Sonoma County’s Rape Crisis and Trauma Center, is seeking applicants for positions as Intern or Trainee (as defined by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences), to provide services in our counseling program. Our clients need counselors, and being able to provide confidential, affordable counseling to victims and survivors and their families is what makes our rape crisis center so special.

Our internship/traineeship offers you:

  • A Verity internship/traineeship offers a broad range of counseling experience leading toward licensure.
  • Interns/Trainees have the opportunity to work with children (6-12), teens, and adults in individual, family, couples and/or group formats.
  • Group and individual supervision is provided by a licensed MFT experienced in trauma services.
  • In addition, training is also provided to become a California State Certified Sexual Assault Counselor.
  • Verity is committed to supporting the growth, learning and confidence of interns/trainees in their path toward licensure.

Who we serve:

  • Clients seeking services at Verity include both males and females, representing diverse backgrounds, with referrals from the community, county social services and probation, law enforcement, and others.
  • We serve survivors of sexual assault and a range of interpersonal traumas, including single-incident and complex trauma; survivors of other traumatic events; and clients with past traumas impacting current life issues.
  • In addition, we provide counseling services to families and supporters of trauma survivors.

A year’s commitment is required and availability to see an average of ten clients per week. Counseling services are provided in our Santa Rosa offices, with some off-site locations. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Position Specific Overview:
Reporting to the Crisis Intervention Manager, the Human Trafficking (HT) Victim Advocate provides direct advocacy, case management, crisis counseling, and community referrals to individuals impacted by human trafficking. This position supports all activities related to case coordination and program operations, including but not limited to, In-Person (CSEC or SART) response, survivor accompaniment throughout all stages of the legal and/or immigration process, accompaniment and advocacy with social services, court, and local law enforcement. The HT Victim Advocate works closely other community partners to coordinate advocacy services. The HT Victim Advocate will serve on committees and workgroups related to human trafficking. The HT Victim Advocate must provide confidential services, informing survivors and their families of their legal rights and options and supporting them in their choices throughout the case management process. The HT Victim Advocate also provides a considerable amount of community education to raise awareness about human trafficking and related issues here in Sonoma County.

We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and reliable individual with a high level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence. Essential to this role is a demonstrated understanding of what human trafficking is, and an ability working with culturally and economically diverse individuals and families and to work with those who are severely impacted by trauma; a demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment and to respond appropriately to unexpected situations.

Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills to work independently and remotely. Additionally, an ideal candidate will possess knowledge of and sensitivity to human trafficking issues, trauma, gender equity and client-centered service provision.

Ideally, the candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree in a social services field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The key to success in this role is the ability to be present in a changing work environment and the capacity to make decisions appropriately.

An effective Human Trafficking Victim Advocate will prioritize effectively and model healthy boundaries with empathy and compassion. Candidates should be competent in using Microsoft Office and Google applications and have experience in confidential data management and record keeping. The ideal candidate is a warm, self-starter deeply committed to providing services from a strengths-based, social justice and anti-oppression framework.

Prior advocacy-based counseling and case management experience is a huge plus. Bilingual, bi-cultural and bi-literate skills are strongly encouraged.

Work hours are primarily 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday. Delivery of service may include overtime to accomplish task at hand. On-call duties are also required on occasion.

Crisis Intervention/Accompaniment/Advocacy Services:
• Provide in-person and telephone crisis intervention for FJCSC clients
• Coordinate and provide medical/legal accompaniment services to victims
• Support victims through the investigative and criminal justice systems by providing case status information, explaining investigative and prosecution processes, and accompanying victims to interviews, pretext phone calls, medical exams, court and hearings
• Provide follow up & ongoing advocacy services via phone and in person to victims via case management as delineated in case notes/client plan
• Assist clients with referrals for counseling, advocacy services, and connections to legal services (i.e. restraining orders)
• Attend case review meetings as needed

Outreach/Education Services:
• Outreach to Sonoma County schools and other community partners to provide sexual violence prevention education related to human trafficking
• Work with Day Labor Centers to explain U- and T-visa processes to workers and families related to human trafficking
• Provide information about the signs of human trafficking to various hotels and motels
• Train other services providers about what to look for and how to interact with trafficking victims
• Speak on panels and in classrooms throughout Sonoma County about human trafficking

Administrative:
• Attend meetings at Verity and other agencies as a collaborative partner, as required
• Work as a team player, collaborating effectively with other staff members
• Accurate and timely program reports for funding entities
• Collect, maintain and input accurate confidential client information into Verity’s database systems
• Adhere to all Verity personnel policies and protocols
• Additional duties and responsibilities as required by Executive Director or supervisor to facilitate the overall effective operation of Verity

Hours and Pay:
The Human Trafficking Victim Advocate is a full-time, nonexempt, hourly position.
The starting pay is $18.22 an hour for the 90 probation period; after probation is over, the pay will increase to $18.72 an hour. Medical benefits will be available after completion of the 90 day probation period.

Required:
Cleared background check and fingerprinting
Valid California driver’s license and auto insurance
Must have completed (or be willing to complete) California State Sexual Assault Counselor certification. Verity will provide this training.
