HIRING: Full-Time Sexual Assault Advocate

JOB TITLE: Sexual Assault Advocate (SAA)

HOURS: 40 hours a week.

SALARY/ BENEFITS: $19.50/hr until completion of a 90-day introductory period, when it will increase to $20/hr. Verity also provides medical benefits and generous accrual of sick and vacation time,

REPORTS TO: Intervention Manager

OVERVIEW:

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Verity and working primarily off-site in a co-located collaborative environment at the Family Justice Center Sonoma County (FJCSC), the SAA implements crisis intervention services with a social work model. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting victims of sexual assault, human trafficking, rape and other trauma caused by sexual violence. Provide support, advocacy, information and connection to resources both within the FJCSC and with off-site collaborative partners, and any additional services that may be required. Assist in training of law enforcement, medical staff, and other community members in the dynamics of sexual assault, the associated trauma, and services available. Must be committed to working with a diverse client population, providing immediate assessment and service delivery, as required. Work in tandem with other programs housed at the FJCSC to develop a wraparound service delivery model to provide an efficient and effective approach to supporting client and family needs. Work with Verity team members at FJC and Redwood Children’s Center, providing accompaniments at child forensic interviews held on-site at Redwood Children’s Center along with additional child and family advocacy services.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

Crisis Intervention/Accompaniment/Advocacy Services:
~ Provide in-person and telephone crisis intervention for FJC clients
~ Coordinate and provide medical/legal accompaniment services to victims, as needed
~ Provide medical/legal accompaniment services to Redwood Children’s Center clients and their families to ensure interviews have Verity accompaniment services
~ Support victims through the investigative and criminal justice systems by providing case status information, explaining investigative and prosecution processes, and accompanying victims to interviews, pre-text phone calls, medical exams, court, and hearings
~ Provide follow up & ongoing advocacy services via phone and in person to victims via case management as delineated in case notes/client plan
~ Coordinate with the Verity and FJC teams to ensure adequate service delivery and follow through
~ Refer clients to Verity for counseling and advocacy services
~ Connect victims to legal services (i.e. restraining orders)
~ Attend case review meetings as needed
~ Fulfills grant requirements for including Polyvictimization grant, FJCSC Foundation, and FJCSC OVW funding

Administrative:
~ Attend Verity staff meetings, providing input and updates regarding client and staff needs at FJCSC
~ Attend meetings at FJCSC, as required, and meetings with Intervention Manager
~ Work as a team player, collaborating effectively with other staff members
~ Complete accurate and timely program reports for funding entities
~ Maintains and completes accurate records in verity systems such as mileage, schedule
~ Collect, maintain and input accurate confidential client information into Verity’s and FJCSC’s database systems
~ Adhere to all Verity personnel policies and protocols
~ Serve as a Verity liaison at the Family Justice Center Sonoma County
~ Additional duties and responsibilities as required by Executive Director or supervisor

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent career management experience
  • Ability to complete Verity’s Crisis Line Counselor training if not already certified
  • Ability to maintain a high level of client confidentiality
  • Proficiency with Gmail and Microsoft Office
  • Must be a self-starter who can work in a team environment and handle a variety of tasks with urgent deadlines

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual candidate.
  • State certification within three years, in current standing, as a sexual assault counselor/advocate.
  • Experience with databases.

HIRING: Bilingual Therapist

BILINGUAL THERAPIST

Contract Position through August 2018

The funding for the position of Bilingual Therapist comes from a collaborative effort with a variety of grant sources.

This is a temporary, contracted position. It is anticipated that the position will begin around April 9, 2018, and will continue at least through July 30, 2018. Exact dates are flexible based on the needs of the agency and needs of the candidates.

This is a bilingual (Spanish/English) position. Please do not apply if you do not meet this criterion. A successful candidate will work 16 hours a week, preferably over two days. The salary rate is $50 an hour.

About Verity:

Verity was founded in 1974 as Women Against Rape, a grassroots organization for women who were traumatized by rape. The agency consisted of a phone number women could call for emotional support. That crisis line is still the only one of its kind in Sonoma County, and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Today, Verity is governed by a board of directors numbering up to 12, with day-to-day operations performed by a paid staff of 24 and more than 60 volunteers. We promote social justice and equality for all adults and children who have been sexually assaulted. We are committed to ending sexual violence by working to eliminate those conditions that cause or tolerate it. We recognize that the process of ending violence in our community involves a partnership of individuals, groups, and institutions. We are an active partner in that effort as a member of the community.

Purpose:

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Operations, this position provides individual, couple, family, group, and child and teen counseling as needed on mental health and personal growth issues for survivors of sexual assault and sexual violence. The Bilingual Therapist will apply clinical skills including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning with clients.

Required Qualifications:

● A Master’s degree in a human services field required
● Two or more years of post-Master’s experience is required.
● Current license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Marriage Family Therapist
● Bilingualism (English/Spanish)

Desired Qualifications:

● Experience with and sensitivity to low income and at-risk populations.
● Experience working with clients that have experienced sexual assault and other forms of trauma.

Direct Service Responsibilities:

● Implements the Verity mission of eliminating violence with a specific emphasis on sexual violence and trauma.
● Provides individual, couples, and family counseling in a short-term format, using an effective theoretical framework.
● Provides counseling or skill-building groups with a membership of at least 5 individuals, as needed.
● Provides case management and crisis intervention, as needed, for counseling clients within regular position working hours.
● Understands the diversity of our Sonoma County communities.
● Establishes measurable goals with client’s input, and relates treatment plan to client goals.
● Demonstrates an understanding of transference and counter-transference issues with clients.
● Offers appropriate referrals to clients.
● Uses supervisory feedback constructively.
● Documents all client contact and session notes per Verity standards.
● Meets with Director of Operations as needed.
● Collects client evaluation forms in a timely fashion.
● Attends to agency needs for documentation.
● Addresses other duties as assigned.

HIRING: Support Group Facilitator

Position: Support Group Facilitator (Contractor)

Reports To: Director of Operations

Pay: $25/hour, independent contractor

Overview: Provides trauma-informed group facilitation with a goal of reducing isolation and shame for survivors. Acts as a mandated reporter while maintaining the safety and integrity of the group. Group facilitator understands survivor needs and challenges and refers to appropriate resources, including Verity advocacy and counseling. The facilitator provides crisis intervention when needed within a strengths-based, empowerment framework.                                   

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Facilitates weekly drop-in support group for women on Mondays from 6 PM – 7 PM.
  • Keeps groups confidential and attends to the safety of group members.
  • Acts as a mandated reporter during group facilitation.
  • Provides crisis intervention as needed for the group.
  • Submits timely and accurate paperwork as directed.
  • Reports any members’ unique needs to Director of Operations.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience facilitating groups with adults and teens
  • Knowledge of or desire to learn about rape crisis center
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Cultural competency
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of community resources

Bilingualism and a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field are both highly desirable.
